Discover power of movement - Nordic walking KZ

We want to take a moment to share the incredible benefits of Nordic walking—an activity rich in history and rooted in the traditions of the Nordic countries. Originating as a summer training routine for cross-country skiers, Nordic walking has evolved into a globally recognized form of exercise that promotes physical fitness, mental wellness, and social connection.

This unique form of walking engages up to 90% of your body’s muscles, allowing you to strengthen your core, improve balance, and enhance cardiovascular health, all while being easy on the joints. It’s the perfect opportunity for those looking to begin their fitness journey and strengthen their bodies, regardless of age or fitness level.

Around 30 million people practice it globally, and its popularity is growing rapidly in Kazakhstan.

In 2023, Nordic walking was officially included in Kazakhstan’s state program for the development of mass sports (Government Decree No. 251, March 28, 2023). This marks an important step in fostering health awareness and active longevity.

We are especially proud of the personal story of one of our ENBA members — Nordic Walking School "Hodi KZ/ Eurasia", led by Maksim Proschenko. Maksim is the founder of the first Central Asian Nordic Walking School ‘Eurasia’ (Almaty) in 2015. CMC in sports tourism, experience in Nordic walking since 2004.
Organiser and chief judge of the first sports competitions in Nordic walking in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine. Trained more than 300 instructors from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia and Ukraine.

What led Maksim to Nordic walking?

In the winter of 2003, Maksim Proschenko, a mountaineer and a convinced extreme sportsman, participated in the shooting of a documentary film in the Dombai Mountains (Karachay-Cherkessia Republic, Russia). Some of the stunts were performed on a cable-stayed bridge over the Amanauz River. The depth of the gorge is 40 metres.

No one saw how the breakdown occurred, and Maksim Proschenko himself does not remember. Almost a year later, during which Maksim travelled from hospital to hospital, he received a certificate of a disabled person of the first group and an admonition to get used to this situation.

But Maksim found his way back to health through Nordic walking. Step by step, it helped him regain his body, strength, and confidence. Since 2004 his experience in Nordic walking is sharpened and sharpened. Now his dream is to become "millionaire" and to prepare one million followers in Kazakhstan. He believes that this goal is quite achievable. It is enough for him to train a thousand good instructors himself, each of whom, in turn, will train a thousand people.

Today, Nordic Walking KZ is not only promoting physical activity — they are inspiring people to reconnect with themselves through mindful movement, breath, nature, and community.

At ENBA, we’re proud to have members who combine personal purpose with social impact.

Movement is not a trend. It’s life.

Spring is a time of renewal, of coming back to yourself and taking care of your body and spirit. Perhaps this is the time to take the first step. Or maybe just go out into the fresh air - with poles, with rhythm and with inspiration.
