In the week of 19-24 February 2024, representatives of the Finnish Water Forum Mr. Arvo Nerman and Mika Karkkäinen visited Astana to participate in the I International Forum on Water Technologies and Resources "Global Water" and a number of meetings organized by ENBA.
Water issues in Kazakhstan are becoming one of the priorities, as every year water shortage in the country's regions worsens, and the issues of water sector modernization remain open. The Water Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Concept of Water Resources Management System Development until 2030 adopted by the Government of Kazakhstan are the main documents for implementation of a number of urgent measures on construction and reconstruction of reservoirs, reconstruction of hydraulic structures and irrigation systems, digitalization, introduction of water-saving technologies, and training of students in water specialties.
In addition to meetings arranged by the Embassy of Finland in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan with the Ministries of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the ENBA Association organized for the representatives of the Finnish Water Forum meetings with relevant ministries and main customers and contractors of the SPS.
During their stay in Astana, ENBA organized meetings at the ministerial level. On February 22 Finnish Water Forum and Econet Oy company were at the reception of the Minister of Construction and Industry Mr. Kanat Sharlapaev, where also were present Mr. Zhunisbekov B.M., Acting Chairman of the Committee for Construction and Housing, Mr. Umerbaev A.A., Chairman of the Board of the Kazakhstan Center for Modernization and Development of Housing and Communal Services. The issues of discussion were investment plans of Kazakhstan on modernization and construction of water treatment plants, financing from international financial institutions, issues of expertise and design, etc.
A day earlier we had a productive meeting with Kazakhstan Center for Modernization and Development of Housing and Communal Services, where FWF told in detail about the plans for construction of 69 KOC facilities within the next 5 years.
On February 23 we had a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of RK - Minister Mr. Sayasat Nurbek and Vice-Ministers D. Shcheglova, D. Ahmed-Zaki and Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Higher and Postgraduate Education G. Zharasova. During the meeting the possibilities of attracting and opening branches of Finnish universities of applied sciences in Kazakhstan on specialties of water topics were discussed, further steps on realization of these proposals were voiced.
In addition, we held meetings with the largest construction companies with extensive experience in civil-industrial construction - BI Group Holding and Integra Construction KZ. A meeting was held with Astana Su Arnasy, where we discussed the design of the reserve KOS-2, which is very necessary for the growing Astana.
This event was an important step towards realization of the long-term plans of the Finnish Water Forum in Kazakhstan.
